Join ASU's community service initiative Project Iingcambu

Apply to volunteer for  Project Iingcambu!

Project Iingcambu was made to enhance and expand a current initiative at Belafonte TACOLCY Center in Liberty City, the Zulu Warriors, which focuses on empowering young boys and molding them into leaders who can later serve to improve the community from which they came.

Through Project Iingcambu, we will augment self-pride and strengthen identity by teaching the youth about a part of their history sparsely covered in schools. These students will learn about Africa and its relevance to the depths of Black American and Caribbean history.

In addition, values of community pride and civic duty will be interwoven into the curriculum to inspire them with the power and ability to create positive change in their community and personal lives.

The volunteers, or elders, are integral in making Project Iingcambu a successful program.  The elders will lead a group of 4-6 students in the biweekly activities they will help plan.

The elders will meet with the Project coordinators to plan the biweekly activities and prepare the materials needed for the activities.  The elders will serve as role models for the students, inspire them to reach for higher education and promote the importance of serving the community.

It is important that the elders are committed to meeting with the Project Coordinators and volunteering with the Zulu Warriors at Belafonte TACOLCY Center.

Applications are due Sept 3rd by 9pm to i.henderson@umiami.edu or f.caphart@umiam.edu
